A small magazine, made slowly

Hollin is written, edited and laid out by five people in an old granary in Wrenford, and printed a mile down the road.

Proofs of No. 14 on the long table in the granary, the week before it went to print.

We started Hollin in 2023 because we kept finding stories about people who still make things the slow way, and nowhere that wanted to print them at the length they deserved.

Each issue takes one word, salt, thread, smoke, clay, and follows it wherever it goes: into kitchens and workshops, out along the coast, back into history. We pay our writers and photographers properly, we print on uncoated paper that takes ink well, and we never run more than a few pages of advertising.

If you make something slowly, or know someone who does, we'd love to hear from you.
